Our products are designed to be lived with and enjoyed for years to come. With thoughtful, occasional care, each piece can maintain its beauty, character and finish over time.
As natural materials age, their appearance can be influenced by the environment in which they are installed. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and UV light, dust, airborne salt, moisture and atmospheric pollutants may gradually affect the surface and finish. Regular, gentle cleaning will help maintain the appearance and condition of your piece.
Where possible, avoid installing fixtures in direct sunlight, against external walls where moisture may accumulate, or near radiators, heaters, fireplaces and other sources of prolonged heat. NOTE: Always switch off and allow light fixtures to cool completely before cleaning.
Caring for Ceramics
Ceramic products should be handled with care, particularly during installation. We recommend wearing clean gloves when handling ceramic components during installation to minimise fingerprints and marks.
For routine cleaning, gently wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove dust and surface dirt. For unglazed earthenware, a lint-free cloth will prevent fibres from catching on the naturally textured surface.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads and harsh chemicals, as these may mark or damage the ceramic surface.
Handmade Characteristics
Our ceramic shades are individually hand-thrown on the wheel. Subtle variations in shape, colour, shade and surface texture are inherent to the handmade process, making each piece unique.
Variations in dimensions of up to approximately 5% can occur and are considered a natural characteristic of the handmade production process, rather than a defect.
Caring for Tumbled Metals
Our tumbled metal finishes are waxed with natural beeswax to provide a light layer of protection against handling, however the finish will remain susceptible to fingerprints and light patination, naturally evolving over time. Each piece has its own subtle variations in tone and texture.
Brass, in particular, is a living material that develops a richer, deeper patina with age. Environmental conditions and handling will influence the rate of this change, with exposure to moisture, humidity, oils and lotions potentially accelerating the process.
For everyday care, gently wipe the surface with a clean, soft microfibre cloth. If needed, lightly dampen the cloth with water, then dry the surface thoroughly. Any water residue can cause oxidation marks to develop, particularly on brass. Spills and residue should be wiped away promptly, especially water, oils and lotions.
Avoid abrasive cloths, scouring pads, metal polishes, waxes and harsh or acidic cleaning products, as these can scratch the surface or alter the natural character of the finish.
During installation, we recommend wearing clean, dry gloves to minimise the transfer of fingerprints and oils onto the surface.
Changes in colour, tone and patina are an inherent part of the finish. We encourage the metal to be allowed to age naturally, embracing the subtle changes that develop over time rather than attempting to return it to its original appearance.
Caring for Anodised Aluminium
Anodised aluminium is a highly durable finish designed to withstand everyday use. Anodised aluminium is a durable finish, but it is not scratch-proof. For regular care, gently wipe the surface with a soft, damp microfibre cloth to remove dust and general surface dirt. Dry thoroughly with a soft, clean towel to prevent water marks.
For more stubborn marks, use a mild, pH-neutral soap diluted with water. Always wipe gently in the direction of the finish, where applicable, and dry immediately.
Avoid abrasive cloths, scouring pads, metal polishes, solvents, acidic or alkaline cleaners and harsh chemicals, as these may damage or alter the anodised surface. However small scratches that haven't exposed raw aluminium can be buffed out with an abrasive metal polish such as Brasso.
Caring for Brass
Machined Brass is made from solid brass and features a distinctive brushed finish with a clear protective coating. The coating helps preserve the appearance of the brass and slow the natural patination process.
Brass is a living material, and subtle changes to its appearance may occur over time. The colour and character of the patina will vary with handling, moisture, humidity, exposure and the surrounding environment. Fingerprints, light marks and subtle variations are inherent to the material and form part of its natural ageing process.
For everyday care, gently wipe the surface with a soft, clean, lint-free or microfibre cloth. If required, use a cloth lightly dampened with clean water, then dry the surface thoroughly. Any spills or moisture should be wiped away promptly, particularly where the brass is exposed to frequent contact with water.
Avoid brass or metal polish, polishing compounds, abrasive cleaners, scouring pads and harsh chemicals, as these may scratch the brushed surface or damage the protective coating. Household cleaning products, disinfectants and glass cleaners should only be used if they are confirmed to be suitable for clear-coated metal. Do not sand, buff or polish the surface.
We recommend wearing clean gloves when handling Machined Brass during installation to minimise fingerprints and marks.
Important: The clear protective coating cannot be repaired or restored through polishing. Scratches, abrasions or other damage to the coating cannot be polished out without altering the surrounding finish. Abrasive or polishing treatments may remove or compromise the coating and create a visible variation in appearance.
Caring for Raw Brass Sheet
Our Raw Brass Sheet finishes are waxed with natural beeswax to provide a light layer of protection against handling, however the finish will remain susceptible to fingerprints and light patination, naturally evolving over time.
Spills, moisture and fingerprints should be wiped away promptly to minimise uneven marking or localised patination.
Avoid unnecessary polishing, as this will alter the natural patina and change the appearance of the brass. If a brighter finish is desired, a suitable brass polish may be used carefully and sparingly. Always test on an inconspicuous area first, as polishing will remove or alter the existing patina and may create a variation in appearance.
Light surface marks or scratches can be carefully reduced by lightly sanding in direction of existing brushing. Sanding will alter the surface finish and should only be undertaken if a uniform brushed appearance can be achieved. For a consistent result, the treatment may need to extend across the surrounding area rather than being limited to the affected mark.
We recommend wearing clean gloves when handling Raw Brass Sheet during installation to minimise fingerprints and marks.
Caring for Cast Glass
Each cast glass piece is individually hand-poured, making every piece unique. Natural bubbles, subtle surface variations and irregularities are inherent to the handmade process and are not considered defects.
Cast glass is a durable and low-maintenance finish. For routine cleaning, gently wipe with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth to remove dust, fingerprints and marks. Most surface marks can be easily removed with a lint-free cloth. For more thorough cleaning, hand wash with warm water and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads and harsh chemicals, as these may scratch or damage the surface. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, which may cause thermal shock.
We recommend wearing clean gloves during installation and handling to minimise fingerprints and marks.
Caring for Frosted Glass
Frosted glass requires careful handling, particularly during installation, as its textured surface can be more susceptible to scratching and marking. For routine cleaning, gently wipe with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth to remove dust, fingerprints and marks.
For more stubborn marks, warm soapy water or a suitable household glass cleaner or isopropyl alcohol such as "isocol" (rubbing) alcohol, then dry gently with a clean, soft cloth to prevent streaking.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, rough cloths and harsh chemicals, as these may scratch or permanently damage the surface. Avoid excessive rubbing or pressure when cleaning.
We recommend wearing clean gloves during installation and handling to minimise fingerprints and marks. Avoid applying stickers, adhesive labels or other materials directly to frosted surfaces, as they may leave residue or affect the appearance of the finish.
Caring for Stone
Natural stone is porous and can be sensitive to acidic substances and harsh cleaning products. Handle stone with care and clean spills promptly, as liquids can penetrate the surface and cause permanent staining.
For routine cleaning, gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild natural soap diluted in warm water. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, scouring pads and harsh chemicals, as these may etch, scratch or damage the surface.
Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and do not allow water to remain on the surface. Take particular care with oils and acidic substances, as these can penetrate porous stone and cause staining or discolouration.
Natural variations in colour, veining, texture and surface pattern are inherent to natural stone, making each piece unique.
Marble Bermuda: Our Bermuda marble wall light is made from fragile natural stone and requires particular care when handling. Always lift and carry the light with two hands and never lift or handle it by the corners.
Caring for Timber
Timber is a natural material, and variations in grain, colour and texture are inherent to its character. Over time, timber may naturally deepen or change in colour and respond to changes in humidity, temperature and sunlight.
The care required will depend on the timber species and finish. Please refer to the specific finish below for recommended maintenance.
For everyday care, gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. We recommend OSMO Spray Cleaner for regular cleaning and maintenance. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals and polishes, as these may damage or alter the timber.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat and moisture, and do not allow water to remain on the surface. These conditions can accelerate colour change, drying and deterioration.
Changes in humidity and temperature may cause timber to naturally expand, contract or develop minor surface movement, checking or cracking. These characteristics are inherent to natural timber and may vary depending on the environment.
Oiled Finishes: Oak · Walnut · Blackened Ash
These timbers are finished with protective oil to enhance their natural grain and character. When the surface begins to appear dry or loses its lustre, reapply the recommended timber oil in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Always ensure the surface is clean and dry before applying oil. We like to use Odies Solvent-Free Super Penetrating Oil.
Uncoated Finishes: Bleached Ash · Ash
Our Ash and Bleached Ash finished are intentionally left uncoated to preserve the distinctive light finish.
Do not apply oil, wax or other timber finishes to Bleached Ash or Ash, as these will alter the colour and appearance of the timber.
Clean gently with a soft, dry or lightly dampened cloth and dry immediately.
