Aleppo soap has been made in Syria for centuries using just olive oil, laurel berry oil, water and lye. Cooked slowly in large vats, the soap is poured, hand-cut and stamped before being stacked and left to cure for up to nine months. Over time, its outer layer naturally turns a soft golden hue while the interior remains deep green.

Each bar is made by traditional Syrian soap makers, preserving an age-old craft while supporting an industry deeply affected by the conflict in Syria. Store in a cool, dry place which prevents softening, sweating, or mould due to humidity.Avoid airtight plastic containers as Aleppo soap needs to breathe—trapping moisture can cause sweating.Use breathable materials (e.g. cardboard boxes, cloth bags) which allows the soap to age naturally and continue drying (which improves quality).Keep out of direct sunlight - UV light can fade colour and alter scent or consistency.

About the ingredients:

Laurel berry oil is smooth, rich and golden and smells slightly spicy and woody – and is the absolute hero of Aleppo Soap.

Laurel oil is extracted from the berries of the Bay Laurel tree, scientifically known as Laurus nobilis and is native to the Mediterranean area. It grows well in northern Syria and Turkey as they have the perfect climate and soil conditions to thrive. The berries are carefully harvested by hand, ensuring only the best-quality fruit is selected for oil extraction.

To create Aleppo soap, laurel berry oil is combined with water, lye and olive oil, another staple ingredient in the soap-making process. The ingredients are mixed together and heated, allowing them to blend and form a thick paste. This paste is then left to cool and harden before being cut into bars and left to cure for at least nine months. The result is a gentle and nourishing soap with a wonderful aroma.
