Frequently asked questions
Named after the Italian word for knots, New Zealand rug company Nodi creates hand woven rugs with unique textures reflected through their hand spun, all natural yarn. The brand celebrates the beautiful irregularities which the handcrafted process creates, making each piece special and unique. Their range of rugs is designed with everyday living in mind. They’re robust, textured and inviting with personality and warmth.
Hand-loomed from 100% wool with 100% jute tassels.
Nodi are a licensed Good Weave business - meaning each rug made comes with a numbered sticker which approves each rug as being made in fair conditions where the weavers are paid a fair wage, clean working conditions and ensures strictly no child labour is used.
Placement
Unfortunately as our sun is so strong, like any natural product, your rug will fade overtime. To reduce this, we suggest placing dark coloured rugs in areas where there is no direct sunlight on the rug, and rotating your rug often so it fades evenly making it less noticeable. Having you rug Microseal will help reduce the fading as it provides a UV protectant, though it will not stop fading from happening. We cannot say exactly how much your rug will fade.
Microseal
We recommend having your rug treated with Microseal. Microseal is a multi dimensional product designed to protect fabric, rugs and carpet from stains and damaging UVA and UVB rays, whilst maintaining the appearance and texture of the fibre. Unlike other products, Microseal penetrates and coats the whole fibre, therefore does not need to be reapplied after cleaning and lasts 10 commercial cleans before having to be reapplied.
Application is a simple, one time treatment provided by an approved Microseal applicator.
Underlay
Underlay stops the rug from slipping, and provides a slim layer of padding making the feel softer and more cushioned underfoot as well as stopping the corners from flicking up.
To install open fully and lay flat on the floor with the white side down, push firmly against floor to there are no lumps, then roll your rug on top. Tip - two people doing this will make it much easier to manage.
Natural fibres do not respond well to chemicals.
Follow Nodi's simple guide below to remove light stains. For stubborn stains, refer to a professional cleaner.
Note - do not follow these steps if you have a bamboo silk rug or a rug with viscose content - contact a professional cleaner.
For spills - Carefully remove as much of the spill as possible without rubbing the stain further into the pile. We suggest you use paper towels to absorb any liquid residue. Once you have absorbed the initial spill, then focus on absorbing as much of it out from the rug as possible.
Do this by taking a clean towel or absorbent fabric and cover the spill, add some form of weight (a heavy book does the trick) on top of the towel/fabric to help draw the liquid up from the rug. Leave it until the spill has been absorbed.
If the spill has left a stain, we recommend spot cleaning with lukewarm water and a gentle Woolsafe soap (avoid harsh chemicals, as these can strip the dye and make the stain worse.)
Dilute the wool safe soap with lukewarm water in a bowl. Apply sparingly to the stain. Do not rub the stain, simply blot and place a thick towel on top to absorb the residue. Repeat this step by blotting with the wool/water mix and then absorbing with a towel until the stain is gone.
Be sure to dry the rug properly after spot cleaning. Do this by either hanging outside if size allows. Alternatively place a towel under the rug where the stain was, and a towel on top of the rug where the stain was with a weight. The aim is to absorb as much liquid from the front and back of rug as possible.
If the stain is stubborn and remains, we suggest you contact a professional cleaner, reach out to us at info@marzdesigns.com for a list of our preferred cleaners.
For every Nodi Rug purchase, Nodi will purchase a Safe Night, an initiative of the Women's Refuge New Zealand, for women and children in need.
